EXPOFORUM THROWS OPEN ITS DOORS TO LITTLE GUESTS ONCE AGAIN

Planet Childhood, a specialised exhibition devoted to childrens goods and services, has opened in St. Petersburg. The opening ceremony featured performances by young dancers from the production centre National Musical Corporation, and a participant in the Voice: Kids show the Junior Eurovision semifinalist Sveta Bedyukh.

“Kids should have the very best. That’s precisely why our complex creates all of the conditions necessary for children and their parents to comfortably attend our events,” notes ExpoForum International CEO Sergey Voronkov. “This year, aside from the exposition of goods and services, exhibition guests will be treated to an expansive Amusement Park, Expectant Mothers’ Day and a wide-ranging programme of educational seminars and master classes.”

“The Kikoriki have been participating in ExpoForum International projects since 2006, and now for the third time – at the new complex on Pulkovo Heights. I’d also like to mention that it’s the most impressive, convenient and stylish venue that we’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting,” says Oleg Zemsky, a representative of Marmalade Media.

More than 100 exhibitors used the event to showcase goods and services for children, and a sizeable share of the exposition was comprised of Russian companies. The domestic producer of children’s furniture made of natural materials, Ellipse Furniture, is based in Kaluga Region but ships its beds, cupboards and shelving units throughout Russia. The furniture is very sophisticated in its design – all of the parts, made of durable, solid beechwood, are rounded with the aid of a powerful press, which makes it possible to avoid sharp corners and achieve the streamlined shape of each piece. “We created the unique design of the kid’s EllipseBed and patented it. It’s a transformer with 7 possible configurations: the bassinet and changing table are used from birth to 6 months, the oval crib and cot – from 6 months to 2 years, two kinds of seats – from 2-4 and 4-8 years, and finally a chair for the child’s bedroom when there’s no longer a need for a crib,” said a company representative.

The St. Petersburg-based company Zanyatny Dom presented its developmental kits in the form of units made of six thematic busy-boards developed according to the Montessori method. The “Drawing” module is a slateboard, while the “Imagining” module lets kids make animal shapes using the most basic elements – different-coloured elastic bands. The “Opening” busy-board contains a wide array of locks and latches, and the “Dressing” busy-board – different kinds of fasteners, snaps, buttons and laces. “The kit makes it possible not only to occupy a young child for long periods of time and give mom lots of extra spare minutes, but also helps develop fine motor skills, fluidity of movement, and mental dexterity,” notes Dmitry Avgustinov, one of Zanyatny Dom’s creators.

Another exhibition participant, the Russian company Banda Umnikov, has been creating developmental board games for kids and their parents since 2012. These include Owlcats – a game of counting, logic and attentiveness, Animal Letters – a game that helps develop reading skills, and Turbo-Count – for quick mental addition, subtraction and multiplication. “We teach the fun way – through the use of original games,” says a company representative. “Thanks to this format, learning such school subjects as math, geometry and English is transformed into an amusing pastime for children and their parents.”

The company Multikubik used “Planet Childhood” to unveil one of its latest innovations – a home movie theatre that fits in the palm of your hand, runs on a boost battery and is safe for young children’s vision. The invention incorporates cutting-edge technologies yet is reminiscent of the entertainment forms of our childhood – the slide film.

This year, children’s food is the focus of a separate section that showcases high-quality formulas from Spain and Switzerland for infants and breastfeeding mothers.
