VLADIMIR PUTIN COMES TO EXPOFORUM

Russian President and leader of the All-Russia Peoples Front (ONF), Vladimir Putin, took part in the plenary session of the ONF Media Forum Truth and Fairness, taking place April 1-3 in St. Petersburg.

Participating in the work of the forum are more than 500 people: journalists representing all of the country’s regions, bloggers, the chiefs of national media organisations, and the heads of concerned ministries and departments. Most of them are laureates of the All-Russia Competition for Journalistic Reporting, held by the ONF Foundation “Truth and Fairness.”

“This is our fourth meeting, and it’s already become a tradition that I regard as beneficial. It’s always a pleasure for me to convene with you. Not just pleasant, but also useful. It’s precisely the kind of feedback that we’re always talking about. And why with you in particular? Because you truly are out there working on the leading edge – you’re always in contact with the people, getting a sense of what’s going on, grasping it and reporting on it from your own perspective, which is also of personal interest to me. It’s important and interesting to the public at large – to the millions of our fellow citizens who, through the mass media, are able to see and hear our discussion, to evaluate what you’re saying and what I’m saying. It allows them, through various structures, through the Civic Chamber, through their local representatives and finally through you to have an influence on the decisions being made at the local, regional and national level. And that’s the whole point of our joint work,” noted Putin.

The first day of the ONF Media Forum, held on April 1, saw the awarding of laureates of the All-Russia Competition for Journalistic Reporting. This year, the winners were 443 regional journalists – almost 150% more than last year.

The next day, April 2, featured a presentation of the ONF’s priority projects: “Spring-Cleaning,” “ONF Road Inspection/Map of Crumbling Roads,” Centre for the Monitoring of Urban Improvements, “Popular Quality Rating” and “Equal Opportunities for Kids.” Participants also took part in the work of various platforms, divided into specific sectors and thematic sections. The entire forum is being accompanied by the Centre for the Legal Support of Journalists, which was created based on the results of the first ONF Media Forum.

Special attention is being devoted to the Ecology Year topic within the scope of the informational agenda. At the end of the second day, RF Presidential Special Representative for Nature Conservation, Ecology and Transport Sergey Ivanov held a meeting with Media Forum participants. For his part, the famous film director/producer Timur Bekmambetov hosted a special advance screening of The Spacewalker by the director Dmitry Kiselyov about the pioneering exploits of the cosmonaut Alexey Leonov and his friend Pavel Belyaev, and invited media workers to throw their hat into the creative competition for journalistic reporting “Heads Up! The Dreams and People Who’ve Changed the World.”
