Life expectancy in Russia has reached record levels

On September 25, the opening ceremony of the 12th St. Petersburg International Health Forum (SPIHF-2024) took place at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, recorded the video message to the Forum participants.

«Preserving the population and strengthening the citizens’ health are priorities of the state policy. At present, we have achieved the highest life expectancy in the country’s entire history. The Russian President Vladimir Putin has set new tasks for the healthcare system. The main goal is achieving the life expectancy of 78 years by 2030. The new National Project «Long and Active Life» is being formed right now. New federal projects aimed at protecting motherhood and preserving the health of children and teenagers are also being developed», said Murashko.

Aleksandr Beglov, the Governor of St. Petersburg, also spoke through his video message.

«St. Petersburg is happy to welcome the leaders of Russian healthcare again. Our city is one of the recognized leaders in this field. We annually update key facilities of the medical system: polyclinics, hospitals, military hospitals, first-aid stations. We implement advanced equipment and methods. St. Petersburg is also a key centre of the pharmaceutical industry», said Beglov.

Elena Chernova, First Vice-Rector of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), noted that the SPIHF-2024 is held under the auspices of the 300th anniversary of the University and the 30th anniversary of the University’s Medical School.

«The Health Forum is a platform that annually unites leading experts in the field of medicine. SPbSU, the history of which has been inextricably linked with the history of St. Petersburg for three centuries, as well as with its outstanding scientific achievements, including those in the medical field, is pleased to become a part of the SPIHF in the jubilee year», believes Chernova.

Elena Grigorievna also noted that in 2023, a new educational and scientific subdivision, the Medical Institute, was created at SPbSU. It consolidated all the medical fields of the University.

Bogdan Kotiv, Deputy Head of the Military Medical Academy for Clinical Work, Major-General of the Medical Service, spoke about the significance of the track «Military Medicine» in the SPIHF program.

«In St. Petersburg, military medicine is closely intertwined with civilian one. We work as a single team, including the cases of treating injured participants in the Special Military Operation (SVO). We develop and master new technologies together. Federal and municipal medical organizations help us at the front stages of evacuating the wounded», said Kotiv.

In conclusion, Aleksandr Gorokhov, Deputy General Director for Commerce at EXPOFORUM International, made a speech.

«Participation in the Forum helps specialists not only gain useful knowledge and contacts, but also improve their skills. The SPIHF events allow gaining the points of Continuing Medical Education (CME). Therefore, the number of visitors grows every year. This year, about 10,000 of them are expected. Over 70 major industry events are scheduled for them. The key theme of the SPIHF-2024 is preserving human health and improving the demographic situation. Over 70 companies and organizations from 12 regions of Russia and the Republic of Belarus take part at the Exhibition, with its area of 2,500 sq. m», said Gorokhov.

The SPIHF-2024 takes place at EXPOFORUM, in Pavilion H, on September 25–27. On the Forum days, free shuttle buses run from Moskovskaya Metro Station to the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre.
