The Veterinary Medicine Labeling System Will Remove Unscrupulous Manufacturers from the Market
Serge Ivanov, Marketing Director of Petshop, is confident that in two years Russia has learned how to make good feeds, which is already competing with Italian or French brands that have left the market. However, experts note that pet owners remain distrustful of Russian feeds. Many manufacturers have to fight stereotypes.
Kirill Dmitriev, President of the National Association of the Pet Industry, highlights among the industry key problems the lack of research centers dedicated to the development of feed formulations for special animal diets. As well as the lack of technologists, nutritionists, equipment and spare parts, high requirements for the quality control of raw materials.
The speakers also discussed the labelling system “Honest Mark”. They noted both obvious disadvantages (reduction of the range of goods, additional expenses) and advantages of the system.
Vladimir Sotnikov, Chief of Medicine at Veterinary Clinic of Neurology, Traumatology and Intensive Care, said that in the pet business, there are non-medicinal drugs that are sold for medicinal ones:
“You can take water, pack it and sell it under the guise of curative one”. Patients die, and pharmaceutical companies do not combat it. The labeling system will force unscrupulous manufacturers to leave the market,” quotes RBC Petersburg Sotnikov’s statement.
The Exhibition Zooindustria-2024 takes place at the EXPOFORUM from February 28 to March 1. It is participated by 150 companies, and the business program includes over 20 events. Over 6,000 guests will visit the venue in three days.
